Judiciary Transfers Registrars, Magistrates

At least 37 judicial officers at the level of Registrars and Magistrates have been transferred. The transfers were contained in an internal memo dated September 29, 2017 issued by HW Gadenya Paul Wolimbwa, the Chief Registrar.

According to the memo, referenced HC/CR/JJO.1, the changes will take effect on October 10, 2017 for magistrates and November 1, 2017 for registrars.

"Transfers of registrars and magistrates will take effect on 10th October and 1st November 2017, respectively," the memo reads in part.

Itfurther states, "All the affected judicial officers should arrange to handover their offices in accordance with chapter 1, section F-d of the standingorders of Government of Uganda".

The memo that is addressed to all justices of the Supreme Court, justices of the Court of appeal, Judges of the High Court, all Registrars, all Deputy Registrars, Assistant Registrars, Chief Magistrates, Magistrates Grade I and II has seen acting Inspector of Courts, HW Tadeo Asiimwe transferred to Court of Appeal as registrar.

Deputy Registrar HW Immaculate Busingye has been assigned the role of acting Inspector of the courts. 

The transfers have seen three Chief Magistrates reassigned. HW Bucyana Lillian has been sent on assignment to Commercial Court an Small Claims Procedure courts as Assistant Registrar. Soroti Chief Magistrate HW Ruth Nabasa will now care take the registry of the High Court in Soroti. Luwero Chief Magistrate, HW Charles Sserubuga, will serve in the same capacity in the registry of Data and Magistrates Affairs.

Themove has seen two Magistrate Grade Ones reassigned as acting Chief Magistrates.

The memo is copied to the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice, the Principal Judge and the Permanent Secretary/ Secretary to the Judiciary.
